OS Class for tomorrow canceled

Due to the sickness of the instructor, the operating systems classes for tomorrow have been cancelled. The make-up classes (for both last week and this week) will be arranged and will be announced soon. It will be scheduled by taking the class schedule of the registered students of the OS class; however, at this moment, Friday (next week or later) afternoon is a possibility.

NO OS Class and Office Hours Next Week

As it was announced in the class, due to a business trip of the instructor, the classes of the Operating Systems for the next week have been canceled. The details of the make up classes will be announced later. Also, the office hours on 10/27 (Tue) from 1400 to 1600 have been canceled.

The following are the tentative schedule for the next three weeks:

11/4: Exercise for Sec 2.3 (x2) and Lecture for Sec 2.4 (Scheduling)
11/11: Exercise for Sec 2.4 (x2) and Lecture for Ch 6 (Deadline)
11/18: Exercise for Ch 6, Midterm Exam and Lecture for Section 3.1 (+ 3.2, if possible).

"Tentative" means it is not finalized and may change later, but should be fixed by the class of 11/4.

OS Class and Classroom Changes

From the next week, (10/22), we will use the S6 classroom (Research QUadangles 281) for the lecture.

Due to a business trip of the instructor, the class on 10/29 will be cancelled and the following schedule changes will take place for making up the cancelled class

• The 1st period of 10/22: Lecture for Section 2.2 "Threads."
• The 2nd period of 10/22: Lecture for Section 2.3 "Interprocess Communication."
• The 3rd period of 10/22: Exercise based on Section 2.2 (with an extended deadline).
• The 1st and 2nd periods of 11/5: Exercise based on Section 2.3
• The 3rd period of 11/5: Lecture for Section 2.4 "Scheduling."

Please read Sections 2.2 and 2.3 before coming to the class next week. If you have any question, please send the instructor email or visit the office hours.

OS Next Class

As explained in the last class, we will cancel the Operating Systems class on January 4 in consideration of the students who spend the New Year holidays with their families outside Fukushima. Make up classes will be given as follows:

• The make up class for the lecture will be arranged on the 2nd week of January.
• The exercise problems will be given as a homework and will be posted on the 1st week of January. You will have (minimum) three whole days to work on the problems.

No OS Class Next Week

Due to the business trip of the instructor, OS classes for the next week (both lecture and exercise) have been cancelled. We will resume the class from the week after next, from Section 2.3 "Interprocess Communication" of the textbook.

The students who had difficulties in solving today's exercise should have one or more of the following reasons:

• Lack of understanding in the course materials presented so far (this almost means the sections of the textbook covered so far),
• Lack of proficiency in C-programming language and Unix (Solaris), or more in general, computer literacy,
• Lack of problem solving capability (such as breaking down the objective into smaller goals and finding the procedure/steps to achieve these goals).

Please try to identify your weak points and conquer them in this two week-break.

LP Class Cancelled
